An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer system and is the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transfers requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server plans include three Linux releases which you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are really stable and safe and the main reason to offer all three of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run any kind of app that you would like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to handle your web hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on the server as different applications may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and secure web hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS routinely to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
